E-Bikelane Sweeper

We’ve pushed for years to get road shoulders and our 1 km of bikelanes swept of gravel and debris more than once per year by Salt Spring’s MoTI contractor…

Island Pathways has hosted sweeping work-bees, we’ve organized letters, meetings, articles… After yet another cycling accident, we even dressed up as Barbie characters and swept the shoulders, getting CBC coverage… but it led nowhere.

So, we bought our own electric bikelane sweeper that can be pulled with an ebike with a grant from Vision Zero and we’re just getting started organizing volunteers to keep bikeways clean ourselves! This is the magical device we found, sold by a Sunshine Coast business!

For Autumn GoByBikeBC 2024, we were out with the sweeper, cleaning the shoulders and lanes for cyclists on Salt Spring. Please get in touch if you’d be willing to take it for a spin once in a while!

Here, we are pouring the gathered gravel into potholes in existing walking paths, win win!
