GoByBikeBC Society Announces New Executive Director

GoByBikeBC Society is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director, Tanya Kaul, who began her tenure on January 15, 2024.

Tanya spent the past three years as the Director of Recreation and Community Services for the District of Port Hardy. During her tenure in Port Hardy, she led two GoByBike Week campaigns on behalf of the District, expanded recreational opportunities for the entire North Island region, and fostered community engagement.

As stated by the Chief Administrative Officer of the District of Port Hardy:

Tanya played a pivotal role in shaping the recreational landscape of our community, leaving a lasting mark on the North Island. Her dedication and passion have strengthened our Recreation Department and fostered positive relationships within our community. Her time with the District has been characterized by her commitment to expanding recreation programming, creating inclusive spaces, and fostering community. Her innovative ideas and efforts have brought about positive change, enhancing the wellbeing of residents across the North Island.

Tanya holds a master’s degree in public administration, with a concentration in local government. She has worked in various government capacities at the local and provincial level and brings much leadership and management experience. An avid cyclist and outdoor enthusiast, she will no doubt be an asset to the GoByBikeBC team as they continue to grow the organization and discover new and engaging ways to achieve GoByBike BC’s mission and vision.

2023 was a great year for GoByBikeBC! Our organizational capacity doubled in size, we witnessed our best event numbers ever, we branched out into new programming areas, AND we started the smooth transition from our outgoing Executive Director, Katie Macpherson, to our new Executive Director, Tanya Kaul. The Board of Directors are thrilled to welcome Tanya to the GBBBC Team!

Tanya stood out from the very beginning of a highly competitive hiring process. She brings a skillset and energy that are a perfect fit for where GBBBC is and where it is going. Her experience in program delivery, working with diverse communities, and being a champion for the staff she leads all point to 2024 and beyond continuing to be exciting in terms of: organizational growth; the programming that we can offer; and, at a grassroots level, increasing the number of communities where GBBBC helps motivate citizens to “go by bike.” To hear her talk about riding her bike is to hear the passion that she brings to the position.

Building on Katie’s great work, Tanya has a lot on her plate these next few months; it would be overwhelming to most, but challenges seem to just manifest even greater energy in her. The Board of Directors are so excited to see the even greater heights that Tanya will take us.

Please join me in welcoming Tanya!
