Tour de Bella Coola
Since 2008,- Hosted by Active Communities Bella Coola, through scenic BC provincial Tweedsmuir Park with stunning views of gorgeous mountains , running alongside the Artnarko River.
Highway 20 runs for mostly downhill 77km. to the head of North Bentick Inlet. Most cyclists would agree it doesn’t always feel down as they are many big “ups”.
BC Parks staff patrol the road from the foot of the Hill to Fisheries Pool where everyone meets to begin the event. Signs along the road warn vehicles of riders. A hardy few ride from Hagensborg to the start, continue to the foot and back to celebrate at Fisheries Pool where everyone is ready to chow down on a BBQ hamburger.
We expect up to 80 riders of ages from 4 to late 70s. (Please no training wheels as bikes do not go where intended.) Registration needs to be done by Apr.27 so are sure to have enough food. All riders are expected to wear helmets and bright safety gear respecting highway traffic. Children 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Bear protocol is simple – see one on the side of the road, turn around and go back! (Carrying bear spray is a good idea!)
The weather is always excellent up valley or so we say!
