Executive Director 

GoByBike BC Society 

Job Type: Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) 

Location: Remote within British Columbia 

Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 base salary per annum, commensurate with experience. 

Total Compensation Package: $85,000 – $95,000 per annum, including benefits.

The Team 

GoByBike BC Society is a provincial nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting active transportation through cycling across British Columbia. Our mission is to inspire everyone to GoByBike. We believe that regular cycling enhances physical and mental health while reducing environmental impact. To date, we have encouraged over 500,000 riders to participate in GoByBike weeks and engaged more than 78,500 organizations in the province. 

The Role 

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of GoByBike BC Society, responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will lead a small team of 2–3 staff members, including the Provincial Program Director and Administrative Assistant, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to advance the organization’s mission of promoting cycling and active transportation throughout British Columbia. 

This role requires a dynamic and visionary leader with strong management and fundraising skills, a passion for community engagement, and the ability to drive organizational growth and sustainability. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement strategic plans that align with GoByBike BC’s mission and vision, ensuring the organization adapts to emerging opportunities and challenges in active transportation. 
  • Identify opportunities for growth, partnerships, and program expansion to increase GoByBike BC’s impact and reach. 
  • Lead and diversify fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, sponsorship acquisition, and organizing fundraising events, to ensure financial sustainability. 
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to support current programs and new initiatives. 
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, sponsors, and the media, to enhance the organization’s profile and impact. 
  • Represent GoByBike BC at events, conferences, and other public forums. 
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring effective program delivery and organizational efficiency. 
  • Supervise and support staff, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and productive work environment. 
  • Implement systems and processes to enhance organizational effectiveness. 
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to support effective governance practices, including policy development, strategic planning, and regular reporting on organizational performance. 
  • Serve as a liaison between the board and staff, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. 
  • Manage the organization’s finances, including budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency. 
  • Monitor financial performance and adjust plans as needed to meet budgetary goals. 
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for GoByBike BC, advocating for cycling and active transportation initiatives across the province. 
  • Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in all organizational practices and external relationships. 
  • Achieving annual fundraising and sponsorship targets to sustain and grow the organization. 
  • Expanding program participation and increasing engagement with community and corporate partners. 
  • Effectively leading and developing the team to achieve organizational goals. 
  • Strengthening GoByBike BC’s reputation as a leader in active transportation advocacy in British Columbia. 
  • Maintaining financial health through accurate budgeting and reporting. 

Qualifications/Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred, or equivalent relevant work experience. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience in a nonprofit or related organization, with a proven track record of managing staff and leading teams. 
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, including experience with grant writing, donor relations, and sponsorship acquisition. 
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting. 
  • Experience working with a governance board and a solid understanding of nonprofit governance best practices. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans effectively. 
  • Passion for active transportation, cycling, or environmental sustainability is strongly preferred but not required. 
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, online fundraising platforms, and social media tools is an asset.
