Spring GoByBike Week Events in Nanaimo!

Spring GoByBike week is finally here and we have a lot of things planned for you. Take a look at our story board, here: GoByBike Spring 2022 (arcgis.com) or click on the featured image to see all the events.

The first big event is the Kick-off party Sunday May 29 from 11-2 at Maffeo Sutton Park. There will be music, some light refreshments and snacks (and food trucks), a BC Transit bus and operator to show you how to load your bike on the racks, and a few speeches about what’s going on this week and how you can win some awesome provincial and local prizes. Make sure you come with your bike dressed up because we are going to do a parade around downtown in the afternoon! We will also provide some decorations for you.

The grand prize this year is an adult and child bike from Canadian Tire Nanaimo, along with some other bike swag from Apex Bikes, Arrowsmith Bikes, Rock City Cycles, and VI Power Sports. All you have to do is log your kms on your GoByBike account or fill out a prize ballot at one of our events to be entered. The grand prize will be given out on June 11 at Kinsmen Park (Departure Bay Beach).

If you need help registering as a participant, please come down to the Active for Life Expo at Maffeo Sutton May 28 from 10-2 to visit us at our GoByBike booth. And if you can’t make it to the kick off, we hope to see you at some other events throughout the week!

Here are a few other fun things to highlight this GoByBike Week:

  • Cyclist Profiles: We want to hear about YOU and WHY you ride. Don’t forget to include a picture of you and your bike to have a chance to be featured throughout the week.
  • Bike Tag: This fun game is all about finding mystery locations with your bike around town. Try it out!
  • The online digital cycling map “Cycle in Nanaimo” is now live with some new updates – make sure to check it out to help plan your routes.
  • In addition to the provincial and local grand prizes we are also running a few small contests this week – make sure to follow @CityofNanaimo on Instagram. You can also keep up-to-date on the events by taking a look at our GoByBike BC – Nanaimo page.

We hope you are looking forward to saving on your gas bill as much as we are! See you out there 🙂
